We decided we were going to make Flock Around in Godot but I (at the time) had zero Godot experience. So I signed up for Ludum Dare and made a very simple game in Godot to get a lay of the land. I made a lot of mistakes, but it's better to make those mistakes here in a jam game than in something higher stakes like Flock Around.
The game itself is an idea I had been kicking around for a while. What if Solitaire got Balatro'd. There are lots of reasons why the idea doesn't even make sense, for example:
Despite this, I made Solatro because it was a game I knew I could make. I knew that it was simple enough that I could learn a new game engine while I was making it.
That said, the actual Godot usage in Solatro is quite bad. I've gotten numerous complaints about the game being hard to read because of how small the cards are and that is unfortunately hard to fix. Oh well, guess I'll have to make a sequel someday.
